Finding happiness in any situation and place is difficult, especially for me, a person who loves to travel the world. I dream every day of traveling the world exploring sparkling beaches and green mountains. I long to experience all the wonderful cultures this world has to offer.

Yet, I find myself sitting in my study hall class filled with screaming sophomores acting like little kids. The teacher is acting like he’s trying to control it but really just egging all the conversations on. I sit behind one of my best friends, also working on his blog, thinking about where I went wrong. Sometimes I wonder how I can stay happy in all of this. Yes, I know there’s nothing truly difficult about my life. But knowing there’s so much more I could be doing. I could be trekking up a mountain in New Zealand or walking along a beach in Thailand.

Yet,

I’ve found that life is only as good as the quality of your thoughts. Yes, I could be mad that I’m not in Europe but I’ve had a good day today. My computer Science class was fun and my Spanish test seemed to go well. I had a fun time talking with my friends. And I’m reading Atomic Habits, an amazing book, learning how to make myself better. Chances are if you can’t be happy in the situation you’re in now, exceptions being death and loss of a job, you won’t truly find happiness exploring a new place. If you can’t find the beauty and joy where you are now. You won’t be able to find it later on. I used to be grumpy and always complained about where I lived. I wanted to be all over the world. Of course, I still do, but I wasn’t willing to put the work in for my dreams. I was much more content complaining about my situation, rather than finding the good in it.

Wake up tomorrow morning and think of something good about the upcoming day. There is always something good about life no matter all the bad. Don’t wake up and think about the 8-hour workday of having to feed the dog. Rather think about that breakfast you’re going to make yourself or that bird chirping on the tree. Not that annoying coworker talking bad behind your back. How about the wonderful donut shop down the street perfect for a quick snack? The beautiful forest in the backyard is filled with so many intricate creatures and plants. The kind old lady who always gives you a little extra sugar in your coffee. Find those small things in your daily life and hold on to them tightly.

Over time you just might find yourself enjoying life more, bit by bit. Waking up the next morning gets a little easier each time. You start your day off with a good mindset and find more joy in life.

I myself am slowly starting to implement these habits and ideas into my life. Even with all of my crappy classes, I still find a way to look forward to school. I used to not be able to get myself out of bed in the mornings and now it’s a lot simpler. Start your morning off with good thoughts.

Even if you are on a beautiful beach in Thailand or stuck in your high school like me. Always remember to try and look for the good in life.
You will learn to find beauty wherever you are.
